A Note to Word Perfect Users

If you are using Word Perfect to format documents for NUD.IST you should be aware of one particular feature of Word Perfect so you can avoid problems when you import your documents into NUD.IST.

You will only encounter this problem if, after saving your documents as ASCII DOS, you open the documents in Word Perfect and do not again save them as ASCII DOS before you import them into NUD.IST.

Technically, what happens is that when you open and then close a document in Word Perfect, the file format defaults to the standard document format (this format includes special character formatting for bold, italics, etc.) This change in the file type will happen every time you open a document even if you make no changes to the document. NUD.IST does not recognize this standard file type and you won't be able to read any of the documents you import into NUD.IST.

The Solution

Always choose Save As... ASCII DOS after opening a file in Word Perfect.
