Chapter 2
Browsing Documents
The term 'Browse' is one of those interesting terms used by NUD.IST both in the software Help system and the printed documentation. It is a term that is used both as a verb, 'to browse' and as a noun, 'browser'.
Browser - the Noun
As a noun the term 'browser' is used interchangeably in both print and software contexts with the term 'explorer': Document Explorer or Document Browser. Both terms are intended to convey the same meaning.
To Browse - the Verb
At the bottom of the Document Explorer window you will see a button labeled Browse. You will use this button to read and code documents you have imported into NUD.IST.
To read a document you must first highlight (select) the name of the document in the Document Explorer window and then click the Browse Button (also in the Document Explorer window). It is from this view that you will highlight and then code selected text in your documents.
Browse Button - Active or Dimmed?
The browse button is active (it appears darker rather than dimmed) when you first open the Document Explorer window and when you highlight the name of an online or internal document. When you highlight the name of an external NUD.IST document the Browse button appears dimmed.
