You can RESTRICT or narrow your searches by clicking the Restrict button on either the String or Pattern search dialogue window.
Restriction options are also available using any of the 17 Index Searches under the IndexSystem pull-down menu.
Figure 43. Restrict Search Options.
There are several ways to restrict your searches:
ONLY:
- Only Documents Coded at (node) address x:
This restriction is useful when you want to restrict a search to documents coded at one node. To restrict your search to a single document, you must first have coded that document in its entirety at a specific node, e.g., the case data node
OR
- Only Text Units Coded at (node) address x:
This restriction is useful when you want to search only text coded at a particular node, not entire documents. It is helpful for refining your concepts.EXCLUDE:
- Exclude Documents Coded at (node) address x:
This is useful if, for example, you want to exclude a particular demographic characteristic in your base data or an element in case data
OR
- Exclude Text Units Coded at (node) address x:
This is useful if you want to exclude a particular node from your searchNONE:
- Remove all restrictions
This should speak for itself! Restrictions remain in effect for all your searches until you use this option to remove them!NOTE: To restrict a search to text coded at two or more nodes you can first use the Index Search to make a Union or Collect text from the desired nodes into one node and then use any of the first four options above to restrict the search.
